Key Largo sits at the northern gateway of the Florida Keys, with quick access to the Gulf Stream — the powerful ocean current that brings warm, blue water and world-class offshore fishing right to the doorstep. The drop from the reef to deep water happens fast here, meaning less travel time and more time fishing.

Captain Mike runs offshore charters targeting mahi mahi, sailfish, blackfin tuna, kingfish, and wahoo. Depending on the season and conditions, trips may use trolling, kite fishing, or live bait techniques — or a combination of all three. The M&M is rigged and ready for serious offshore action.

What You'll Catch

Target Species

Mahi Mahi

Summer (Peak)

One of the most popular catches in the Florida Keys. Found around floating debris and weed lines in blue water. Known for spectacular aerial fights and excellent table fare. Peak season is spring through fall.

Sailfish

Winter (Peak)

Key Largo sits in the heart of prime sailfish territory. Known for explosive jumps and aerial acrobatics when hooked. Most productive on kite fishing rigs with live pilchards or goggle-eyes. Peak season is winter.

Blackfin Tuna

Spring (Peak)

Hard-fighting fish found in the Gulf Stream and deeper blue water. Excellent eating — great sashimi. Available year-round with peak action in cooler months.

Wahoo

Winter (Peak)

Sleek and powerful game fish known for explosive strikes and blistering runs. Wahoo are outstanding fighters that test tackle and angler skill. Found in offshore waters along deep structure and weed lines. Excellent eating with firm, flavorful meat.

How We Fish

Deep Sea Fishing Techniques

Kite Fishing

One of the most effective techniques for targeting pelagic fish like sailfish, tunas, wahoos, and mackerels in the Florida Keys. A specialized fishing kite suspends live baits just below the surface, keeping the bait splashing naturally — an irresistible presentation for predatory fish. The M&M is fully equipped for kite fishing with years of experience running kite trips out of Key Largo.

Trolling

Trolling with lures and rigged baits covers ground quickly and is effective for mahi mahi, tuna, and wahoo. Captain Mike runs proven trolling spread patterns in the Gulf Stream and along color changes off Key Largo.

Live Bait Fishing

The M&M carries three onboard live wells and sources fresh live bait daily — typically pilchards, goggle-eyes, and threadfin herring. Live bait is the most natural and effective presentation for sailfish, kingfish, and mahi mahi.

Premium Experience

Swordfish Charters — Day & Night

M and M Fishing Charters is one of the few operations in Key Largo equipped for both daytime and nighttime swordfish trips. Broadbill swordfish are found roughly 20 miles offshore in deep water — often 1,000 to 1,800 feet down in the Gulf Stream.

The M&M carries specialized electric reels and heavy tackle purpose-built for deep-dropping. Captain Mike has landed swordfish exceeding 500 pounds. South Florida is a year-round swordfish fishery, with some of the best action in the country.

Swordfish trips may be priced differently than standard offshore charters. Call for current pricing and availability.

What to Expect on Your Trip

Everything Included

All tackle, rods, reels, bait, ice, and fishing licenses are included. Just show up ready to fish. Fish cleaning is available at the dock after your trip.

Trip Lengths

Half day (4 hrs), three-quarter day (6 hrs), and full day (8 hrs) trips available. Longer trips reach deeper blue water and provide more fishing time.

Group Size

The M&M accommodates up to 6 anglers. Rates are based on up to 4 people — $200 per person for the 5th and 6th angler. Private charters only — no party boat here. You'll have the boat and Captain Mike to yourselves.

What to Bring

Sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, food and drinks, and a valid ID. No fishing license needed — Captain Mike's charter license covers all passengers. Reef-safe sunscreen appreciated.
